Ei Compendex is what we often call the American Engineering Index Ei database, and is the world's earliest source of engineering abstracts. Ei Compendex has included 175 professional engineering disciplines since 1969, and currently contains more than 11 million records. The newly added 500,000 abstract index information each year comes from 5,100 engineering journals, conference proceedings and technical reports. The documents collected by Ei Compendex cover all engineering fields, of which about 22% are conference documents and 90% of the documents are in English. Ei began to include Chinese periodicals in 1992. In 1998, Ei established the Ei China Mirror Station in the Tsinghua University Library.
